injector tips covered in carbon

I have a 730 diesel that has two different pumps but the injectors are the same. Both of which have lots of carbon deposits on the tips. the reason I pulled the injectors is I want to go through the whole fuel system. Lack of lugging power. So is it my fuel system or my engine it doesn"t appear to use oil but only gets worked on the pulling track. Any information regarding this situation from where to go to what to do would be very helpful. Thank you.

If you're having the fuel system gone through, the tips will be cleaned and/or replaced during that procedure. And if you're not working the tractor fairly hard for long periods, you can expect to see the same carbon in the same spot the next time you pull them. It certainly isn't a help to performance, but I doubt it will seriously hurt it either. I've pulled plenty of nozzles out of tractors that performed fine on the dyno (field tractors) and yet had some carbon on the nozzles when they came out. That carbon can build up on there in a matter of a few hours of light load running.

That is not uncommon. You can clean that carbon off with a soft wire brush. You won"t hurt those tips. Trying to clean the holes in the tips is another story, but the exterior carbon can just be brushed off.

one thing I remember in the manuals talks about not mixing brands of injectors or injector pumps, you had to use the same pumps or same injectors on both cylinders but that the pump could be a different brand name as the injector brand name.
a diesel is know for some soot in the combustion even in a good running engine, but some of the problem is the engine really never sees a good work out, only for two to three minutes a pull. the best life for the 730D, 720D or 70D was at about 900 to 1000 RPM and enough load to get working good and generating some heat and do that most every day til the fuel tank ran low and you butt wore out.

If I were you ,I would take the injectors to a repair shop and have them tested and rebuilt if needed unless you have extensive training on injector nozzles.Let them clean the carbon off.
