What is the significance of the 40w. I know they were only made one year, but what makes them "desirable" if anything?

I have a 40 that I'll keep until I'm dead. It is marked "40" on the tag -- no "T", "W", "S", or any other letter -- just 40. It has a cast square axle with a cast pivot bracket in the center. It sits pretty high. Is this a "T" with a wide front end?

That sounds like a 40T with a wide front option.

I think that the 40 T version was the only one with the letter not stamped after the 40

As stated, production numbers is one thing. They were the prototype for the 420's in that some of the improvements planned for 420 were tested on the 40W. The configuration is a good one, first of that design for Deere. They sold very well for Deere. They were only made for 9 months and sold 1756. I have the family 40W and will never part with it. Money isn't everything.

I agree with Mike M"s production numbers, but not with his conclusion of value.

Mine is worth slightly less than 1 million.

I have one too. I wouldn't sell it for $50,000... but I know it's not really worth that. I love that little machine. It cuts my grass, plows my small field, grades the driveway, and plows snow. The only things missing are a live PTO, and power steering.

Only made I think around 1758 of them ? I hope they go sky high in price ,but I highly doubt it as I have one . LOL So they are likely worthless.
