I have a 48 B that I pulled a lot of parts off of in an attempt to start restoring the tractor. Well I tried to do something I didnt have time to do so I eventually had to put it back together before the winter. The upper water pipe now leaks from the hose connection. The hose is in fairly good shape but the pipe has a lot of pits in it. I sand blasted the pipe and repainted it so it wouldnt continue to rust, but am at a loss of how to stop the leak. There are no holes through the pipe wall. Any suggestions short of a new pipe would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Take the hose back off, let everything dry. When you reinstall wipe some silicone around inside the hose before installing. If you put it inside the hose it isn't as messy. After it dries you can remove any excess. Just wait a day it put water in till its set up

Try tighting the hose clamp some more. some pin holes may have developed during installation from vibration.. If you have to replace it take your old pipe to a muffler shop and have them cut one to size and flare it, I had this done on two of my tractors, install the oring and it is holding today, one of them is about 5 yrs old.. About 15.00 at my local shop. Good Luck Ben

I thought about getting a new pipe and brazing into the the old casting to get rid of the old pipe. One small problem is that the old pipe has some slight bends to it so it will clear the cooling fan shaft. I will have to see if a muffler shop can make those small of bends.

That is also an odd size 2 7/8" I've made them out of 3" but had to bore out the casting. This requires a milling machine. If K&K makes these now I'd get one from them.I have dealt with them before on other stuff with good results, but at the time I did my late B pipes no one had them. That's been several years ago and alot more aftermarket parts are being made now.

You can get a new pipe that is prebent from K&K in Shelbyville, Indiana. Phone 317-398-9883. Good people to do business with. I think I paid about $30.00 or $40.00 for it, been a long time.YR or 2 Don

I"ve had decent luck using J B Weld to fill rust pits. Just make sure the pits are cleaned out good - like just after sand blasting, then fill with J B Weld and sand smooth.
