A friend of mine is looking for a tractor so I went with him to look at a JD2120. Very nice tractor but he noticed that when he used the hydraulics (like with the power steering) there was a sound that he described as 'bees buzzing'. I told him that my JD1520 made a simular sound that I think comes from the main pump. We also looked at a JD3020 but could not hear any noise from its hydraulics. Does anyone else with a JD tractor from this series notice this sound or is there something wrong that is causing this?

That sound is comong from the trans. pump circuit- if the tractor has IPTO, Hi-Lo or reverser, there is a pressure-regulating valve in the shifter cover. Even if it doesn't have any of the above, the trans. pump oil goes through that housing and makes the noise you decribe. The oil lines inside the clutch housing vibrate. Utility tractors have always done that and I suspect always will. Ron.

i operate a jd 2150 and when the engine is warming up i can hear a 'buzzing' sound, but it sounds like it's coming from the front pump, everything works o.k. don't know what it is, but it seems to go away after it's complety warmed up.
