I have just removed my cyl head to check for leaky pushrod tubes (found no leaks in the tubes) but I am putting the head back on using lead washers under the head nuts, but one of them bewilders me. It is the head nut that also holds the oil distrubution washer on that has a brass fitting that connects to the rocker arm shaft. Does this nut require the lead washer? And would you put it over the dist. washer directly under the nut, or under the dist. washer? Maybe with another lead washer directly under the nut? Since the guy I bought the tractor from did not use the lead washers when he reassembled the head after a valve job. (Also found a sticking valve, removed, scotchbrited, cleaned valve guide bore up, drenched in oil and put back together. Bores were also rusted lightly, but also smeared oil all over them and manually cranked the tractor over, adding more oil) Thanks to all of you who have helped in the past!

You should of been able to see if the push rod tubes leaked by just removing the valve cover. If you can even get the lead washers, last one I did they subbed copper ones in the set,put one under each nut. Don't put one under the oil dist. washer as it will squeeze out and could plug something up only under the nut.Put some permetex or some kinda sealer on the back of it so it can seal to the head. Also after you torque down the nuts trim off the extra lead so it doesn't fall out and get into something.
