Hi,
On thursday i was out looking at a 730 Diesel. My friend crawled up underneath the block and noticed something different than he had seen before. On the underside of the block (one under each cylinder) there were two round holes that go to the water jacket that look as if they were filled in with a round piece of plate and welded in the hole. This got him to thinking, he said he had never see this before and he has been around the block with JD's. We then went to a JD mecanic with 50 yrs experience to ask him about the holes. He said he couldnt remember anyting like this and proceded to get the service manuals out thinking that if it was a freeze plug it would say something about it. It didnt. We next stoped and looked at a neighbors 720 Diesel because they have the same block. It also has the same two holes that look to be filled in or cast with the block. Finally, we went and looked at another 730 diesel and found the same two cast or welded holes. My question is:
(1) Is it cast or welded at the factory
and
(2)What and why is it there
Thanks,
chaz
