I have a JD 4010 and am wondering if when checking fluid levels for engine oil and hyd oil do you screw the dip stick down onto the threads as if tightening or do you check fluid levels with the stick against the housing without threading it down. It makes a big difference and I don't want to run it too full or too low. THANKS!!

KYFarm; I have a 4010 and lucky to have manuals. You do NOT screw the cap down. Just let it set on top and then check. Mine has been rebuilt and runs like a top. Two JD dealers have ask to take it in trade. Guess there is a market for them.
If you dont have a manual I give you a hint. There is pipe plugs at at the ends rear axle just inside the tire. These should be pulled and grease pumped in then replaced. Either put in a zert or use a needle on the gun to pump it in. If you need I will check for # hours for that and other items. Luck
