The ventilator pump on my 60 JD wore out and locked up breaking the governor gear. The housing is shot and I have been told I can eliminate the pump rotor completely.Do I need to make a spacer the same length as the rotor I am getting rid of or will it be ok by just removing it?Thanks

I thought OLD would pop in I think he has a 60 for parts you maybe able to get good used stuff and fix it back up right. Also try a want ad over in the classifieds. I'd really hate to see it cobbed up,it really doesn't take that much more to do it right.

Exactly. Getting to the guts is about 75% of the job, so why not just put it back together right while you're there?

You can just remove the roller, but those assemblies should be about as cheap and available as you can find.

I rebuilt the one on our '48 A and then the neighbor's '60'. Face ground the plates to remove the step cuts and gouging, and put it back together.

You don't NEED that pump, but it keeps the crankcase oil fresher especially if you have any unburnt fuel reaching the oil.

You don't need a generator or a starter either.....and you can always use a vice grip for a steering wheel.....

Well said F.I.T. I was going to say something about vice grips are the only wrench needed. And baler twine makes great gate hinges. However I'll stay quiet and keep the smart remarks to myself instead.
