What's this on my 40?

I have a grease fitting below the generator on the back side of the hydraulic pump on my 1952 JD40T.
I assumed that this was grease for the pump. But now my neighbor has a 40 and it was leaking oil from this spot. He pulled the plug that was there and put in an oil pressure gauge, it showed 40 psi while running. So, what exactly is this "grease fitting"?

I got that kind of switch a few years ago at the local NAPA store. I used it to switch the alternator on and off on Schramm that has magneto ignition. NOt a mystery. hth. George S.

It is NOT supposed to be a grease fitting. An oil pressure switch that operated the hour meter went in the hole. Someone took out the switch and replaced it with a grease fitting to plug it up The hole has 1/8" pipe thread.

Interesting, now where can I get a pressure switch to go back in there and get my hour meter going again?

Try a tractor supply place or catalog. They were pretty common and used on all kinds of equipment such as generators and construction machinery. Maybe a good local auto or truck parts place. Just needs to be a switch that closes under about 10 pounds pressure. Mother Deere may have them. They had two logs on them as the circuit was isolated from the body.
