Fellow tractor enjoyers:

It has been awhile since those who use this forum responded with some statistics about themselves. I thought it might be nice to place a bit of info about us on here again.

I'm a retired electronics engineer, in my 60s, grew up on a North Dakota small grain farm. Served 4 years in the U S Navy. Very much enjoy the older farm tractors (most makes) and machinery. Am also interested in music as a hobby. My tractor is a John Deere "50".

I'm 48, live in NE Iowa, farm 260 acres (corn, beans), work full time at local Coop. Do almost all my own repairwork (kind of relaxing). Spent 24 years in home/farm construction business, 14 of those as a branch manager. Did farming for others on the side. Decided I'd had enough of dealing with the public, so jumped at chance to farm for myself. Love it. Have same wife I started out with 30 years ago (she works full time in town, too), 2 daughters (29 and 22 yrs old), 1 son in law, 1 future son in law, and will be a grandpa in December.
Have a '49 A, '54 60, '6? 706, '88 4450, 6620 combine, and the rest of my line is mostly green.
Just wish I had time to use the boat and golf clubs more.

I'm a Structural Engineer currently residing in Las Vegas. Born and raised in East Tennessee, near Bristol, but haved lived all over. My brother and I still have a hobby farm there, where we get to use our two-cylinder John Deeres. We have a 620 gas and two 730 diesels. This a great hobby, and I'm always impressed with the wealth of information on this website.

I'm 36, live in the piedmont of NC. Have lived here in the same area all my life except for a 4 years in USAF as an equipment operator; Gulf War Vet. Grew up helping my dad farm. We didn't do much fishing or hunting, always working the land and was active boy scout, Eagle. Except for a Case 930, and Ford 861, everything was red, 1066, 51 M, 51 Sup A, 51 cub. Was the first in my family to jump to green. My grandfather said many times when living,"what 2 cyl could ever out-work a farmall." He was die-hard Farmall. Not getting into that, however I own 51 G, 51 B. Have traded two A's (42&44) for the G and a gooseneck trailer to go places with. Am on my second marriage, have two wonderful children (11 and 8) Would love to get into pulling a little however priorities are with my family for now. In city gov for 14 years, 16 to go til I can drive out west and come back w/ another green, 51 A or so. Godbless our troops and our nation that allows us to enjoy everyday freedoms!!

I'm 46 and live in East Central Missouri. I have a restored 435 Diesel that we have owned since around 1965. We sold this tractor with some property around 1986 and I just bought it back last year. I use it with a 6' finishing mower on my 4 acres.

I also have a 1944 Oliver 60 Standard that my Dad bought for me in 1960 when I was one year old. He also bought two others for my younger brothers but neither have kept their's. It is restored and I just use it around the property for odd jobs and to take to shows.

I have been married to a wonderful lady for 21 years (she puts up with me and my hobbies) and have two great kids.

I am 42. Grew up on a farm in Ohio and started "driving tractor" when I was 10. Spent my teen years on a 2520, 4230 and occasionally on "the B" (1950 model). Growing up on a farm taught me several important lessons including "work ethic" which has certainly contributed to my success.

Headed off to college and landed in Michigan. Professionally I have about 20 years in the information technology field. I also have a side business developing websites for small companies.

My son and I mow our 6 acres with a 335GT and a 2210 CUT. Mom and Dad are gone, but "the B" is sitting patiently in my second garage. I want to start a restore this winter, not trophy level but at least get her back to factory trim. Then just enjoy driving her around and take my son and his friends on a hay ride or two each fall. The B was the first tractor my dad bought, and was the last piece of equipment to leave the family farm. As long as I have a place to put her, she will stay in the family.

I have already turned my 12-year old into a JD nut. He has a t-shirt that says, "A man and his tractor, it's a beautiful thing." He proudly wears this shirt to school. And I think that's great!

I too enjoy hearing about backgrounds of folks who enjoy green tractors. I am 56 and grew up in south central Nebraska on Case Dc, SC, Vac, & a Caterpillar D2. I remember mostly disliking eating all the dust from these old girls. Oh yes and the handcranks when the battery didn't work.

Last year I bought a 2520 diesel and find it a lot of fun. My 13 year old son would rather I had kept my old 65 Chevy 396.

Have been a farm real estate broker since 1977. I couldn't wait to get off the farm and now can't wait to go back and tinker on the old 1871 homestead that we still own. I framed the original land patent.

Good Morning, nearly 66, born/raised on a farm in SW Michigan, now live on the Alabama Gulf Coast 50 miles east of Mobile in an area known as the Redneck Riviera. Made tissue paper all 34 years of career. Been rode hard and put up wet. Have three beasts, one green, two red, as follows: 50 JD B (most fun to drive and listen to under load), my dads '50 red H (most dependable and user friendly) and a red Cub (by far the best for picking up chics) Enjoy this forum and have found it very useful in diagnosing problems with the tractors. I'm 42 grew up in Ohio got the tractor bug by going to my Uncle and Grandpas farm every weekend. Did my first restoration at age 13 a mounted plow for a JD H then did the H. Which I still have along with about a dozen other Deeres. That count is way down from before kids.I ran my own repair shop and parted out several tractors for many years (still part time)To pay the bills and have health care for the family I am currently working in a parts department for a small time GM car dealer.I have worked for several different dealers in parts from JD,Kubota, to IHC trucks.

I'm glad to see many younger people into this hobby.I'm also glad I was able to do what I did while I was younger as now it is getting harder to stand on the concrete for the long hours needed to repair stuff.

Also a NH 68 hay baler. I'm thrilled to see the younger folks responding. Probably means the JD 2 cyls and other old tractors and machinery will always be kept around which is excellent.

I'm 45. Born in upstate NY (New Paltz) where I fell in love with the local farmer's JD 50. Moved to central NC in 1974. Various jobs in College include working for Radio Shack, installing Car Stereos, working as a radio/TV repair technician and later managing the repair shop of a local car and home stereo dealer. Worked for awhile as a truck and equipment mechanic. Drove dump trucks and concrete mixers. Later on worked as a local Tractor-Trailer driver for a sand and gravel outfit. Worked for North Carolina State University for a Summer in the Computing Center as a consultant (worked with old systems like TSO, CMS, SAS etc). Eventually got a job while still in College with a local division of ITT which made HF Radios for Marine applications. Been working as a Software and Digital Hardware Engineer for the last 20 years or so.

Got my own 1953 JD 50 (finally!) and until recently I used it at a local horse farm. I'm in the middle of looking for land to build my own small horse farm. I've also got a 1968 Case 450 Tracked Loader that I recently rebuilt the engine on. I've had several motorcycles over the years (all Hondas) and currently have a 1970 Triumph waiting for a full restoration when I finally have my own shop to work in again.

I love this site. I've gotten lots more help here with my tractor and loader than I've been able to repay with advice, and even though the tractor and loader have been sitting idle for the last couple of months I still stop in when I get the chance.

I'm Dick, live in Fallon Nv. started restoring tractors after I lost my pilots ticket due to physical not passable. I flew and built my own aircraft for 27 yrs, but alas, sold all my planes and started tractors to keep busy after retirement ( 74 yrs). Am on my 5th tractor and my first JD B which will be finished in just a few days. Money being short, I have sold the completed ones (3)and have kept the Farmall H for chores around the place. Can't wait for the B to be complete and start putting it to work.
At this time I want to thank all those who have helped me out in the past, couldn't have done it without you guys, God Bless you all, Dick

Started on it this summer and got nearly everything torn apart and fixed. Now I only get to work on it when I make it back home for a weekend or holiday. Didnt get radiator out yet to have it cleaned. Once that is out, time to paint then go back together.
I also have a 1966 International Scout 800. Finally got it in good running condition after about $1500.
I attribute all I know, ie. welding, mechanincal, and all around good kid to my parents.

Planning to become a welder, mechanic, or heavy-duty picker truck operator, and do a little farming on the side. Got bit by the collecting bug a year ago. Now own a 1952 JD A (I restored it last winter), a 1955 JD 70 diesel standard (running, sort of), a very rough 1948 JD D (not running), and a 1951 Maple Leaf 2-ton truck, all bought with money I earned from summer jobs. Hi Group,

I am 26, I live in upstate South Carolina. I do AutoCAD for a precast concrete company. I have always had green fever since I was little but was recently alble to afford a tractor. I have a 39 JD D that I am in the process of restoring and a 53 Ford F-100 that is sbout 75% restored. My dad and I share a 1972 Jeep Commando, that is restored as well as a 39 JD A and a 47 JD M, both of these are future projects. Im glad to see that I am not the only young person in here

Thanks
Brad in SC

I'm proud to be a Pennsylvania State Trooper for the past 10 years. I have been assigned as a helicopter pilot for the past 5, and fly a Bell 206B3 JetRanger for a living (which is a childhood dream). I'm 33, but feel 23. I'm an avid runner - but like my JD 60, I'm slow and steady - certainly not "fast" by any stretch of the imagination. I'm married with 3 kids ages 2,4, and 6. The 2 yr old makes "putt-putt" sounds and like to mow the grass with me. I just finished fabricating a fully hydraulic loader and new bucket for the 60, based on a model 45 frame. I drive a 79 International Scout II that I fully restored. I appreciate 70s and 80s country music, old school craftsmanship, honesty, and the sacrifice that Jesus made for us all.

I am 32, in western Canada where I am a professional forester. I work in logging and road building. My father in law is a JD nut and a HD mechanic by trade and it has rubbed onto me. He has an R, 60, G, A, parts of B and Hs and an 8N. I have his 70D with a 45W at our place, a 70G, 720D, and MC and an Oliver Super 55 HC. We have a small acreage with some hay and field to work in the future. I work my tractors but not too hard. Also some logging to do, which I am building a sawmill for.

I have had a lot of help from this website when I run into problems. I hope the hurricane hasnt hurt anyone we know on this site.
