Dad purchased a brand new JD 1020 w/ a model 47 loader in 1969. He uses it daily and loves it to death even though its not a very popular model. Does anyone have any trvial information regarding this tractor? I'd love to hear anything!

My dad bought a new gas powered 1020 in 1967 or 68--- traded the tricycle A in on it. We farmed about 120 acres of hay, corn and wheat in southern Idaho with it for 2 years then moved to northern Idaho and farmed 100 acres of dryland wheat & hay and did custom hay cutting & baling with a JD 24T baler & a 10 foot Hesston pull type swather/conditioner. Most of the farmers in that area were using crawlers to farm the steep hillsides and thought we were crazy to take a wheel tractor where we did, but we cut and baled a lot of hay between 1969 and 1972 when we sold the 1020 along with the ranch and equipment. We both loved that tractor, and have wished many times since that we still had it. We also had a model 47 loader like yours and used it frequently around the farm for multiple tasks. If anyone knows where I could get my hands on a scale model of this wonderful little tractor to add to my collection of equipment and vehicles that have belonged to the family over the years, I would love to hear from you.

Mike, My grandfather bought a 1020 diesel new in the late 60's. Used it for everything on the farm, including cutting small trees with a Marvel Tree Cutter(similar to a brown). The only thing he had to do other than maintinence was put one clutch in it. I don't remember how many hours it had on it, but it was a bunch. He died in '81 and it was still running like new. My grandmother sold it and about 10 pieces of equipment to my uncle. I almost cried. I have been looking for one ever since. Saw one advertised and went to look, but someone beat me to it. I have talked to others who own one. Everybody loves them. Just my thoughts. Nathan

I don't know about the popularity of the 1020,but my dad had 2 of them on the farm ,,had VERY good luck with them, one was traded for a 3020 , the other I bought when I took over the farm, later I bought a 2640, and sold the 1020 to my brother a mile down the road ,,,it is still going strong,,they are a great little tractor !!

i have a 1020; i bought @1988; its a gas burner, with no power steering; it's been a great tractor; i recently bought a JD2240 with a FEL; i think if the 1020 was diesel and had ps; i'd rather keep it than the 2240..i've been asking $3500 for the 1020 for 6 months with no takers; and i see folks paying $2500 an more for 8N's??
go figure??
