The Load Control Shaft on my 4010 D leaks oil. I"m not afraid to tackle it but is this something that needs to be done at a dealer because of specials tools required or can this be done with the normal complement toolbox? Also I have seen on ebay someone selling seals for the load control shaft that are better than ones obtained through Deere, does anyone know this to be true or is he just leaking oil? Thanks!!!

JD DOES have a special tool to drive in the seals but it can be done with out it.the seals are directional so read the directions closely that come with the seals- please dont use the "leak proof" bushings that have the o-ring inside-that just reduces the width of the surface area supporting the load control shaft-the best fix is to replace the bushings, load control shaft and seals all at once and make sure to shim the support to get rid of excess side play which cause the load controlshaft to wear faster

I've used both kinds before with good luck. Like the others said you need to replace the shaft if it's wore or any scoring at all or you won't get a seal.

I've had two 3010's and I've replaced the seals on the load control shafts on both with just my meager tools. There's nothing special involved. I remove the lift arms and the drawbar. Setscrews hold the caps on both sides. I use a hydraulic jack to take the weight off the yoke. Use a soft 3/4" drift to move the shaft out of its housing. Then you should be able to grab it and pull it the rest of the way. I lubricate the new seals with hydraulic fluid.
The next time I go into mine I plan to try the new type of seals. There is a place in Missouri that sells them as well as new shafts. Hope this helps.

I replaced those seals on my 2510. After paying about 70.00 for the new type seals, I was afraid to drive them in. It looked like a press job at the dealer to me. I then installed the older type seals, with no problem. On thing to check is the shaft if it is worn neither seal will hold. Russ
