I run an '83 2950 and after about 2 hours of bush-hogging with a 15 footer or cutting or baling hay the temp. guage needle is pegged red. I called the dealer and they told me if it isn't boiling over then it isn't hot. Any opinions? Thanks

My 2755 used to do the same. I had a bad thermastat, it wasn't opening all the way up and after running a while under heavey load the temp gauge would go in the red. I'd check the rad like the others said first then the thermastat

If the gauge is increasing gradually, I don't think it is your guage. Believe your indications. As MSM said check your radiator for cleanliness. If it is clean, you can check the sender by pulling it and putting it in hot water. Use a small pot of water, a thermometer and a torch is all you need to test it. Good luck.

It could be a bad sending unit or guage, but I would be more inclined to say the radiator, and coolers are probably clogged with dirt and chaff. Also make sure the side screens are clean, and the foam gaskets on them are in place,or dirt gets around the screens and clogs things up quickly. The radiator and cooler will need to be blown out with air or washed out carefully with a pressure washer.Running it in the red is a sure way to crack a head or blow a headgasket.Might also be a good idea to flush the cooling system and refill with a 50-50 mix of good quality antifreeze.
