My 3020 recently started racing when trying to idle down. At medium rpm the engine starts racing and when you throttle back to where it should be idling it now quits. I noticed the problem seems to go away some what after it warms up. Once warm it will idle but almost sounds like it has a miss. I did start the tractor and drive it around the yard while the engine was cold right about the time I started noticing the problem. Blown head gasket? There is no oil and antifreeze mixing though. Also about the same time I ran the tractor real low on fuel. When I filled it I checked the sediment bowl and was full of crud. Did I screw up the injector pump or an injector? The only other thing I can figure is that the tractor has had blow by for a long time, is she just gettting wore out? Please help, I love this old tractor but this recent problem is driving me crazy!

Morning Jody;My 3010 did the same way back when and Burt is hitting the nail on the head with his governor assessment.I think though the crud in the sediment bowl is from your tank and not pieces of the pump because of the direction of flow, the sediment bowl is ahead of the injection pump.Good Luck. Your govenor band in your injection pump is shot. Fix it before she runs away on you and blows the motor to little pieces. The crud in sediment bowl is probably pieces of the band.
