I was woundering if a taper lock is a addittion to an old worn fly wheel. Or if this is an new fly wheel of a new design.

So I was wounding if you could have your crankshaft built up & then machined? But this sounds like what they come up with instead? About how much dose this cost? Have you done this?

If you had your crank built up it would involve pulling it out. Then you would still have wear in your flywheel and it would need replaced. This taperlock setup saves lots of labor and money. Not sure of the cost call Allen's and check it out.

I have done several. Even bought just the center tapered sleeve once and machined the fylwheel myself to save some money.

It is both. You can have yours modified or buy a new one made heavier with it in. Best place to get one is Allen Machine in Tenn. try 423-753-5738

Have you ever used a collet in a lathe or mill ?
Pretty much works the same way. This setup is basically machineing your flywheel with a taper inside to accept a split collet that is tapered on the outside and splined inside to match your crank. It has a large nut on the outside that you tighten up drawing the tapered collet in makeing it squeeze tighter on the crank.
