I have reassembled my 36 A and find that there is a hairline crack in the lower radiator tank. What is the most cost effective way to plug such a leak? Will stop leak, pepper, etc work in nonpressure systems? I thought the pressure is what makes those things work. (I think a lot of things that are wrong.) I also thought of filling the lower tank with gas tank sealer. Would that work? Thanks for any help.

Thanks for all the input . When I get this thing apart I'll get a better evaluation. This is a great discussion list.

Jim Several years ago a friend of mine welded the bottom tank of a styled A. It had a large crack across the bottom of it and had to make several passes to fix it. I asked if he had to heat it and such and he said it was soft cast and you could weld it without the heat. He could weld anything but a broken heart or wore out a$$hole. Lynn

I'd place an ad over in the classifieds and see how much you can get a good used one for ? This way it will hold up without question. Should be some around. I had no trouble finding a good one for my B.

Mike's advice is the best and I might be wrong but I thought the unstyled radiator tanks are hard to find in decent shape. I checked the parts book and the part numbers are different from the unstyled to the styled.

If they are obtainable that is the safe bet.

They could be hard to find ,you just have to try. When I did my unstyled B I was very surprised at the amount of parts around for them, even many new and NOS parts. Many more than I could afford to buy. They did build a lot of those A and B's

Jim,

I would think you should be able to grind a groove the length of the crack and braze it shut or use JB Weld.
