I occasionally see an ad (like now in the photo ads) of a JD "A" with POWER BLOCK. Would someone please explain just what 'power block' means. Thanks

A longer stroke? Doesn't that mean you have a different crankshaft? How is that accomplished?

Power Blocks were sold by Tractor Supply. They included the pistons. They got the "power" by increasing the bore size and the compression ratio. "B" power blocks were 5", "A" power blocks were 6" and "G" power blocks were 6 1/2 inch. The piston was taller and that is how they got the compression ratio increased. Not sure of the actual number but something like going from around 4.5:1 to about 6.5:1. And you are right. If you want to change the stroke, that is done with the crankshaft not the power block. Hope this helps.

J
