I've got a chance to buy a good running JD "A"...unsure of year, owner believes it's early 40's...good tires, starts easy, paint is old & faded, but, tractor has been kept under-cover, so it's not rusty, just weathered. He is asking $2,000 & believes this is a good price for a good runner...is it?? I'm interested in it to use for pulling, I'm not going to restore or re-sell, just keep it going. Thanks for the help. Josh in Maine

Sounds about right for up here. Junk goes for about $500 and running machines for about $2000 (A's & B's). Sounds to be in decent shape, so the guy could probably get more. Whereabouts are you?, I'm near Augusta.

Don't know about Maine, but here in Maryland that would bring $2000 if it is like you say it is. Rust free is a very good thing. Even non running JD A's are going close to $1000 down here.
Now wether or not that is a "good" price is up to you. Any machine is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. There will be other A's... but will they be running and rust free?
Dave
