why is my radiator so cool and my engine running 200 degrees ? If it is my thermostat where would it be located on a 820 pony start? Thanks Kelly

Is the 200 degree temp while working hard? If so, it is probably OK. If it gets that hot just putting around, that isn't normal. You're problem could defintely be caused by a stuck thermostat (or two). Most of us have the opposite problem-running too cool.

The tractor has two thermostats for the diesel. Remove the two UPPER water pipes that lead from the head to the radiator, and you will see the thermostats sitting in the head under each pipe. Deere's price for them wasn't too bad last I checked.

The thermostats aren't priced too bad, but NAPA has them cheaper. They cross reference to a regular automotive thermostat. The problem with changing them out is the gaskets. The only Deere dealer that will have them is Greg Stephen. Of course, you could always buy gasket material and make your own easily enough. It's not like they are as important or difficult to seal as a head gasket.

As I remember, JD wants around $8 each for the T-stats and NAPA was around $4 or $5 each. Not a big difference unless your dealer is going to charge you the infamous shipping charges for something that will most likely come with his stock order anyway.

Brandon,
Knowing you are the big bore 2 cylinder expert, can you help me with this question. I acquired an R with the engine stuck, clutch was stuck also. I disassembled the clutch, took the clutch fork loose but I can't get the clutch pulley off, or the clutch fork assembly out of the tractor. The clutch pulley has come off about 1/2" and then seems to hit something really solid. ??? Thanks.
