I have the one offered by directv which is DIRECPC. It's the oneway system which uses your regular land-line to send out, then it comes back thru the dish. Yes it costs more $$ but when you(me too) live out in BFE regular dial-up at 26.4 kbps is slowwwww ww, vs the dish set-up with about 600-800kpbs....well... . I am happy with mine, the only negative really is weather related, just like dish-tv when there is a bad/good storm with thick clouds you can lose your signal on the dish.

Checked into the satellite thing a couple years ago and it seemed very expensive. We live in the country and our land lines are ancient...slow connection for dial up and no possibility of DSL. We finally went with wireless...you have to be within a line of sight of the antenna and no more than about 10 miles away. Started with one company...they went belly up, then switched to Speednet. They are the biggest wireless company out there...offering service in something like 20 states. Might be worth checking into...runs us about $50 a month...but the speed and time savings is worth the extra over dial up. My wife sends a lot of pics of horses via email and was always tieing up the computer before...cut down on my 'tractor research' etc..
