Last time i got a head gasket from deere for my 70 it had lead washers in with it. But I just got back and opened it up and it has copper washers in it instead of lead! (question) should i use them or go back and get some of the lead washers?? Were they used to seal the studs or for lube when torqueing?? not shure what to do wich way is best?? Last time i got a complete gasket set this time i only got the parchel kit. But ive herd that gaskets from napa have copper washers in with it allso. Wouldnt useing hardend washers and a little anti seize be better?? thanks ROD

70 plowboy, I use those lead washer if I have them but if I don't have any handy I just use a some Loc-Tite PST with Teflon on the back of the nuts & stud threads.. That stuff not only seals it also prevents galling..

~I would suggest you not use those brass washers as they tend to deform & open up so the torque would be uneven & if they don't stay round & a tight fit you could have a leak..

Throw them away! I tried those copper washers on a G head and they leaked around the nut. The lead washers cost .31 cents at JD. I took 1 nut off at a time and put the lead washer on and torqued down. It took care of the leak. Bryan
