Breakaway coupler rebuild

I would like to rebuild the breakaway coupler on my '66 4020. Can anyone provide me instructions or maybe a diagram? I have not yet bought the rebuild kit. Does it come with instructions? The manuals I have don't show the coupler rebuild. I have removed the outer snap ring, but don't know how to get to the inner one. Any words of wisdom?

Thanks,

Jon

Only thing other post didn't mentionis that you need 3 hands but have room for 2 fingers when putting e clip back on. A pair of bent point needle nose pliers really help there. Not uncommon for the barrel part to break at the outer end if the remote hoses are pulled hard to one side ou up and down.

Its pretty simple. After removing the outer snap ring and removing the welsh plug and E clip, spring and lever, push the coupler out from behind.Be ready to catch the coupler balls. I use a sharp center punch to remove the welsh plugs.

Unless the barrel is leaking at the rear or the ball needs replaced,I would forego taking it apart there. The O ring inside there rarely ever leaks nor does the ball usually need replaced.Be sure to install the back up washers in the proper place. When reinstalling the barrel,be sure the flat on the barrel lever hole where the spring goes is turned toward the top.I use plenty of grease to hold the balls in place and oil or grease the o rings liberally before reassembly.

What do you mean by "welsh plug"? Do you mean the two 3/4" plugs on top that I assume hold the levers in line? Do 2 new ones come with the kit?
And I assume "barrel" refers to the part that holds the small balls. Those are the pieces that I need to replace. They have broke and lost a couple of balls.

Yes--welsh (proper name for them)plugs-sometimes called freeze plugs---new ones in kit.Install them by placing a large punch on top of them and give them a rap with a hammer to swell them tight in the hole.Barrel--- main center piece that holds the balls.--- Where in Indiana? I live in Fishers.
