I am trying to fix up a friend"s 2010RU SN in the 59841. I need to adjsut the valves, .012 intake and .018 exhaust (from the archive). My question is about the valve cover gasket. It is my understanding that there are water passages in the cover, so a proper gasket is needed. I don"t see this gasket listed from any of the parts houses I found online. The local Deere dealer is no help, they just want to sell new machines (needed a starter, they said it was unavailable. I got one in 3 days from this website!)

So, where might I find this gasket online? Or is it easy enough to make one myself? I don"t think that gasket in a tube is right for this job.

Thanks,
Josh

Thanks for the info guys!

Now I can get the job done, and get the Deere back to work. This was a free tractor that came at the right time as our Kubota was starting to act up. Now we"ll repay the old Deere with some well deserved maintainence.

I purchased one about 60 days ago for my 2010. It came from Atlantic Tractor which is a joining of about 5-8 dealers in VA, MD and DE. There phone # is 757-787-2300.

Looks like the part number for the Gasoline version is T12618, last price I show was $18.
It is different from the diesel gasket.
shows to fit the 1010 and 2010 Gas engines.

I looked at my 1963 2010 just now to be sure (took a flashlight at 1:20 am). Mine is gas powered, you do not say if yours is gas or diesel.

My valve cover is held on with two nuts on two studs that stick up through the top of the valve cover and is sealed with what looks like red RTV sealer, nary a leak and has not used any coolant in the three years I have owned it. What your source is probably looking at is the deck on top of the engine block that unbolts and comes out - in essence the main block is one piece and the four cylinders themselves and the top deck the cylinder head actually seals to is a separate part. There is a gasket between the engine casting and the cylinder deck, another gasket between the deck and the cylinder head.

I tried to look things up in the JD Parts online catalog linked below but the site is down right now. You can look at your convenience if you wish.

Hope this helps out.

Dave,

Yes, our machine is gasoline. I looked at the JD site, and they don"t show much except flters and such.

I"ll have to clean things up better and remove the gas tank to get a really good look.

Thanks!!!
Josh
