I have a very nice and complete 37" "B" popper. My expertise is antique motorcycles (if you know of any let me know I"m always looking...) and I prefer unrestored bikes. But everyone I see with JD"s seem to have to restore them. The question is should I restore this old gem or leave it be? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I love to see them original. But here in Ohio original paint tractors are hard to come by as stuff rusts up bad.

Do whatever trips your trigger. Tractors restored to a "T" are nice, but there's also a lot to be said for a nice, original tractor still in its working clothes. If it's in good enough shape to make you happy and serve whatever purpose you have for it, leave it be. You can restore it anytime, but it's only original once.

I restore JD tractors because I like to work on them. I don't show them often. If you llke the old girl the way she is leave her alone. If you want something to do for a winter just dive in with both feet and restore her. There is lots of help here.

I like both. I have an JD M with original paint and tires that I do not intend to restore. The tractor runs great, has sufficient paint to keep it from rusting, and while it does have a few oil seeps, it is not in need of any major repair. I also have a MT in which I have completely restored. I take them to shows together and the M always draws more attention that the MT. I also have a '30 GP that I am restoring now and a '28 GP that I plan to only do a mechanical restoration on. Therefore, in my opinion, if the tractor is mechanically sound with average to better sheet metal, rims, tires, etc..., I would leave it alone. Besides, they are a lot easier to keep looking original than to keep them looking like you just finished restoring it. I always keep this in mind because I like to get my tractors out and drive them, even the restored ones.
