What is the story on the A serial number 466787 in the photo ads? Is the seller saying that the 1st A was reincarnated into a later A?

I am not a John Deere guy, just curious?

It is NOT the first A. If it was the first A for the 1938 model year, okay, but why would that be significant?
The first A tractors... I believe... are all accounted for. These would be the model AA prototypes.
I personally would not pay $15,000 for a run of the mill 1938 A.

Some collectors consider the first or last tractor produced in a given production year more valuable than others.

However, IMHO there is adequate confusion about serial number records regarding when a particular years model actually began that I would have a difficult time taking a specific serial number to the bank.

Secondly, If this particular tractor is not uniquely configured different than the serial number immediately preceeding it, then I think it may not be all that big a deal.

Third, If the serial number is truly the 1st one for 1938, how do you really know that serial number tag was originally on this tractor from the factory?

My personal taste would be to want to be able to observe something unique about the tractor other than just the serial number.

However, the seller has a perfect right to try to market all the positive attributes of their tractor. If ..... . they can verify accuracy. I just wouldn"t be willing to pay that much.

Different strokes for different folks.

If that is his selling point to make it worth more, it's not

That serial number makes it the first A built in 1938. I don`t know how significant that is.
