I have a 4 year old Gator with low hours that has an overheating problem. I know that they are prone to an air bubble in the coolant system that needs to be vented but I had a noisy electric fan busing last fall and now the fan seems to run very slowly if at all with some noise. Is it typical for these to wear out? Has anyone added a manual switch so the fan can be turned on or off at will? Does anyone have any ideas on how to prevent the air blockage in the cooling system. I expect to have to replace the fan ($120) but I'd like to solve the overall problem. I think they have a major design flaw with this unit.

As slow fan will not move enough cooling air. So yes the gator will overheat. Why add a manual switch and keep the coolant and engine too cold? Why run the fan when it's not needed? After starting a cold engine the alternator's output should be charging the battery rather than diverting some output to turn an un-needed fan. The gator fleet here is 5-1/2 yrs old and they take a beating being used as emergency response vehicles. Only service to date is gas, oil, filters, tires and several batteries. They should have been ordered with optional 35A alternator rather than the weenie engine stator charging system. The batteries expire early from always being 1/2 dead due to short start-stop cycles.
