Anyone know of a good source for a Hydraulic Breakaway coupler for a '66 4020? Or what they run new from the dealer? I broke mine and I need another. I may just switch the left one to the right, as I only need 1 remote.

Thanks,
Jon

I have an extra breakaway coupler here. We"ll have to see if it is the same as yours or not.
Let me know if you don"t find a better solution.

So, can I switch the left for the right? Are all parts available from a rebuild standpoint? and can I remove all vulnerable pieces and weld the ears back on, then put in rebuilt parts?
I will take a closer look and see what parts are tore up.

Thanks for the help.

Jon

Jim,

Why do you say they are not interchangeable? I took a close look at them last night, and they seem identical to me. Is there something internally different about them?

Thanks,

Jon

The 20 series breakaway couplers are interchangeable from right to left. The old 10 series (3010, 4010) were not. I sell used pull off breakaway couplers (unwelded) for $200 each so you might want to try welding first. I see lots of them that have been welded before.

You can weld it back; won't even have to hull it out if you weld SLOWLY. Once had a post-hole digger that (because of its U-shaped hitch) would hit and break the coupler. Only managed to break one before learning not to pick it all the way up. Still got the old tractor and weld is still holding..... .

What did you break, just one of the barrels, or the whole casting they fit in?

The casting broke off at the ears where it mounts to the tractor. That could probably be welded together. And also did break part of the barrel inside.

Those units are pricey, even at a salvage yard, and you could just about count on having to rebuild a used one. (At least that's the luck I have !)
