WICO Distributor Question?

There is a WICO Dist. cap on Ebay, Part # X5651. I have a 1952 B serial # 309810. My JD B parts book says my dist. cap should be part # X 5643. Does anyone know if these caps are basically the same and will part # X 5651 work on my WICO Distributor? Thanks for your help.

52BMAN,
Yes, in the Wico Price List X5643 subs to X5651, with no other changes mentioned.

Duane, I have an old Wico Service Instructions & parts list 6/1/55 & it shows the X5651 cap used on the Wico XH 1042.

Clooney,
Yes, it was used there. I think the main thing to be careful of is to get the proper cover and rotor button matched. While all the XH and XB covers for Waterloo-built tractors have the external spark plug wire outlets on the same side, most covers have the brass take-off buttons adjacent (on the inside) to the lead outlets, but some covers have one brass button near the lead outlet, with the other brass button 180 degrees from it, and connected internally inside the cap to the other external lead outlet (the usual setup for XH909 caps for the L, LA magnetos). The former cap takes the usual two-prong rotor button, while the latter cap takes the rotor button with a single prong. Since the price list shows a direct substitute and does not mention changing the rotor button, I believe both caps should directly interchange.

Looking further at some old Wico catalogs, I believe the X5651 cover = X5643 cover + 5618 cover gasket.

Duane,

Quote: "Looking further at some old Wico catalogs, I believe the X5651 cover = X5643 cover + 5618 cover gasket"...>>> That makes sense as I have another old book that lists the X5651 as a cap assembly..
