We picked up a sweet running A at an auction about a month back, and as soon as we got it home, I noticed it has a 38" rear on one side, and a 42" on the other. We had to set the wheel settings in a few inches to get it on the trailer, so taking them off is no problem. I do know there are some basket-cases out there that won't budge due to having never been touched since they rolled off the assembly line 60 years ago...

This is probably something for the classifieds, but where could I find a good rim, hub, etc. to trade for either a 42" or a 38" so the tractor sits level?
I apologize if this belongs in the wanted-classifieds; I'll post on there too.

Where are you located? I think I have a 38 inch casting and rim. I"m near Louisville, Kentucky. What is the casting number on both the 38 and 42 inch wheels?

I'm on the Eastern Shore of MD. Louisville is a good 8 hours away...

I will not see the tractor until next sunday; I'm living off the farm and don't get out too much because of school. As soon as I can get the casting numbers, I'll contact you.

Thanks
Alex Rogers

See June 2004 Green Magazine for a proven way to get those stubborn wheels off a rust-bucket axle; this for when you find one you are seeking. And if you do not have access to that issue of Green, write me -- [email protected] -- I can help. (PatB)

I'll search their website archive to see if I can find the article. If not, I'll get in touch with you.

Thanks

Maybe I should have contacted you first. I have a 38 A I restored in high school back in the 70s. I decided to remove the rear wheels this weekend to take the calcium solution out of them , as it is really starting to eat up the rim next to the valve stem. When torquing the bolts to push the wedge off the hub, the whole center of the wheel broke out! I think I can reweld the cast iron with cast rod and a torch, but may opt to find replacement wheels if possible. So with that said, if anyone has a set of f&h manufactured round spoke wheels, let me know. They currently have 11/36 tires on them, but I think they were designed for 10/36's. We were alot more cautios with the other side, using a gear puller on the wedge plus using the wheel bolts to push, but still managed to crack the casting on that one too. I know, didnt learn the first time..haha

Hi Jeff -- A post like yours breaks my heart. I just know you are sick over the ordeal. What now? Above all, do not panic. Get out your Green Magazine and start searching for wheel specialists. There has to be help out there somewhere. Also -- Start another post here -- with the new problem or need. Someone here will have an answer for you. Be Blessed! (PatB)
