took y'alls advice, pulled valve cover, inj pump cover, and plug. Added water, started out of the base and none visible elsewhere. Pulled head, nothing visible, same on block. taped up ports and filled with water, head held, block started leaking around rings on flywheel side cylinder. Engine stuck, unable to rotate to see if hole or crack (doesn't rally matter)the question now is will it be worth it to bore/sleeve or replace block? tractor sheet metal is rough.Maybe some of you that have been down this road can give me a ball park as to cost of repair or advise to part out. Thanks to all and happy putt putting...

Can't give you a cost estimate - I live in Canada. I went thru this with a "D". In my area it is very expensive to get a "D" sleeved - it is 6.75" bore.

With a well machined, sleeved block, you've got a good idea of what you have. The bores can be matched to the condition of the pistons. A replacement block could be worn out of spec and need boring to take oversized pistons.

Make sure that you have the head surfaced so that you have a good flat face for the gasket to seal against. It should be flat within a couple of thousandths.

Blessings,
Jon
