I keep a few tractors in a shed with only a north wall on it, and the birds come under there and poop all over the hoods. A bird will fly for miles to get to land on those steering shafts on the JDs and drop a load. What can you cover them with that won't wear the paint off on the corners, other than putting walls up. Any ideas are appreciated, Ken.

Canvas works great. Sheds water, breathes, not too expensive. Wouldn"t use it on my old Pontiacs with nice paint jobs, but use it with success on my tractors & implements.

I have old cars & can say with impugnity that ANY type of plastic is really bad for the vehicle. Moisture will be trapped under there & cause corrosion, heat build up etc. Even if the vehicle is covered w/ a roof you will still get moisture coming up through the slab or ground. I learned this the hard way.

I just pulled the bed sheets off mine yesterday. My tractors are stored inside. The bedsheets can breathe but keep the dust and crap off the tractors.

Years ago I restored a Jag E Type. Had to store it outside and coveredit in plastic. A few days later a neighber who had show cars came over and warned me that if the plastic moves it will abrate the paint. I could hardly believe him but we checked and after only a few days the black finish was very damaged in three areas about as big as a chicken agg.

I have no dought that is true, however this is so light it would be hard to make it scratch anything. You wouldn't be able to use this outside. It wouldn't stand up to the sun at all. I have a nice paint job on my tractor and it has not caused any problems in two years. Also it is not flaped around by the wind. It's just what I do, not trying to force it on anyone else.

I got a roll of painters-plastic at Home Depot when I painted my garage a few years ago. When I had bird problems plus a leak in the roof of the shed, I put the thin light plastic over the tractor and some other items (power washer, lawn tractor and four wheeler). It works great and is dirt cheap. Light enough that it is easy to put on and won't scratch the paint. CLW

IF you do not want to spend any money there are a few choices. If you have a local lumber yard that gets lumber off of the rail go and visit them. The lumber cars are covered with a very heavy plastics that has nylon in it for strength. They are huge. On sheet is probably over 100 feet long and 60 feet wide. What I did was hang the plastic to the poles and took a 2x4 and nailed over the plastic to the poles and just roll the plastic out and roll it up when I want the tractors out. The plastic will rest on the exhaust pipe but make sure that it is not touching any of the paint. Condesation is not a good thing.

Ken, I don't have much trouble with birds but I buy the soft car covers to keep my tractors clean. They work great and do not harm the paint at all. I think they run around $25. or $30. at our local Farm & Fleet.

You need to get something to scare the birds like a big ole plastic owl or a fake cannon going off every once in a while. It's not a lot fun having wrap and unwrap evertime you want to use it. Have you thought about an enclosed building for things you don't want the birds to take a dump on.

Thanks for all the idea's, i will try some of them. An enclosed shed would be nice, but with two kids starting college i don't see it happening right now. My wife said just sell the tractors, i tried to explain all the reasons i need them, but she just don't understand.Thanks again, Ken.
