I'm having problems with the markers on my planter. When lowering it the right marker comes down evey time. The left marker will never come down. How to repair? How to trouble shoot? I push-pulled on it in both the down and travel position and it worked one time , now is permenently stuck up. I hang out on the Farmall board as I am doing resto on an H Farmall, But I do own a very nice(parade) 3010, but the 966 does most of the field work.

Try raising the planter and locking up the working marker. If the other marker now works, it sounds like the plate that's welded on the marker cylinder carrier broke loose (inside the tube). That's what mine did.

Gordakota:
Those markers are hydraulically controled. you have to have two way hydraulics hooked up( that is two hoses). You have to travel to the end of your stroke in order to get those markers to operate. If the wrong marker goes down you cycle it out and lift and drop again. Then the other marker should drop. If you do not complete the cycle the same marker will continue to drop and raise. The cylinder is inside the box frame. If you have to pull it. Be sure to fasten wires to the cables and also the hose that goes through the frame to the hyd hose. It will make them a lot easier to get back in. It does come out the right side and you will need a manuel that tells you how to do it. I had a 6 row that I blew a tube in about 4 years ago and if you have help that also helps.

While the lift cylinder can be two way, there is only ONE connection to the marker cylinder. I KNOW, right now my 4 row 7000 is apart with the marker operator outside sitting on a barrel. I have to replace the steel tube because mouse p rusted a pin hole in it and the markers won't stay up. I have both the lift and the marker plumbed as single acting cylinders separately which I found handy and even with the leaking line I was able to complete planting which I would not have with them plumbed together.

Gordakota, probably the first thing to check is to see if the leaf spring on the marker had tension on it when the planter is raised. If there is none the marker will not alternate. Also, contrary to what the book says the marker mechanism will work better with little or no lubrication as oil will collect dirt and cause problems. If the leaf springs are adjusted right let the right hand marker down and remove the shear bolt and let the marker go to the rear. Remove the marker actuating mechanism and clean out the likely mouse nest inside of it. Mice love to make nests in these frame tubes. Your Operator's Manual will describe how to do this. Hope this helps. Mike

YES MICE SURE DO LOVE THAT AREA. Their saturated nests rusted a hole in the steel hydraulic pipe on mine so that a lifted marker fell in about a minute. The new pipe is $63 from Deere and I don't yet know how much of a picnic its going to be getting it back in place. First I bought a cylinder seal kit but I've not figured out how to take the cylinder apart and its not leaking anyway, though it moves quite freely.

There's sliding parts at the marker cylinder (located at the right end of the main planter boom) they need lubrication. Officially you are supposed to pull the assembly out and apply grease. Getting it out is covered in the operator's manual.
