I found a 2 digit serial number 70 JD, I was just wondering if there are any more low numbers around. And in "your opinion" would that make it worth any more ?

430WLPG...ran across #5 in Iowa and #6 in Colorado. I think unless it's the very first or the very last a low number is interesting but not valuable. My opinion.

Hi There -- the first JD 70 bears the serial number of 7000001. Ref John Deere Tractors, 1918-1987, Copywrited by Deere & Company in 1987, and with the permission of Deere, actually released by the American Society of Ag Engrs, St Joe Michigan! How's that for a mouthful!!

I interpreted Pat"s question slightly different. I thought he might be asking what the lowest serial number 70 that is known to still exist today. Someone may have found ser # 0001 70 but I haven"t heard of it or read about it.

Lowest serial number of anything I've ever seen with my own eyes was 6300001, at a tractor show in Myerstown, PA in the summer of '99. Had a nice "cage" surrounding the serial number plate to keep it from escaping.

CLW,

That show was at Wenger's of Myerstown. Lloyd Wenger has a Ferguson 35 (I think it's a Ferguson, at least it's gray and looks like a Ferguson) that has very few hours on it...like 10 or 12 maybe. The orignal owner used it for a day or so, parked it in his shed, went in the house and passed away that night. Sounds like a neat story, and I think it's probably true, even if I have muddled the facts with my fuzzy memory.

I was at a farm show in West Ky last weekend. I was looking at a nice 630 gas. It as a late 59 year model. A fellow came up to me and said he had one not quite as good that he had turned down $20000 for. I had not heard of them being priced that high. The restorer might break even on a price like that.
