Did they make a hand crank for a '52 M? I currently have a electric start and think having a hand crank option would be a hoot!

Al:

They come up on Ebay from time to time. I think someone reproduces them as well, and also sells them on Ebay.

I had one at one time, but havn't seen it recently, on the other hand I havn't looked for it either. Probably out in the shop in a cabinet.

You will still need a battery to run it unless you find one of the VERY RARE magnetos to fit it. I am not so sure that it may be the same as the cranks for the LA. I have both but have never compared them.

Al:

I hope you can make out the numbers, but they sure did make a hand crank for the model "M".

Thanks very much Frank! I can make out the part numbers, can these possibly be ordered from JD directly or is there an aftermarket option?

Al:

By now, you are probably better off calling around to some salvage yards or posting a wanted ad here on the YT ads page and just look for a nice used crank. That's how I found one for my VAC Case. It was handy when I was overhauling it.

Now, if some kind sould can give you a few dimensions like the stock diameter, the pin diameter, the pin orientation to TDC #1, you can have a crank fabbed up pretty quick and would probsably pass for an original one.

But who knows, you might get lucky with the dealer!
