I have two J.D. "R" tractors I'm making one out of two. One has bendix-scintilla the other American Bosch. Can I interchange these pumps? If not can somebody tell me why?
Thanks for your help!

John,
Listen to Gpower and look in the Green magazine. I recently had some pump and injector work done for my 720 by the "new competion". Very good to work with, they bent over backwords to help me! Tractor runs very good, quick turn around and price was right too. Next time I have a diesel project it WILL be going there.

The tech manuals say to not use 2 different brands of pumps. They are both very much the same as far as operation and internal parts. There are a few minor differences in the delivery valves, holders and such. Will it run and work? Yes. Recommended, probably not. I am still wondering why Deere just didnt use the same supplier back then, but I am sure, as always, it boils down to the penny counter. Regardless of what you do, you should have the pumps tested and calibrated along with the injectors. There are a few guys that still work on these systems, look in the May issue of Green Magazine and The Hook.....some new competition is arriving!

The entire pump or injector can be interchanged but you cannot put a Bendix and Bosch pump together in the same engine. Not recomended to mix injector brands on the same engine either. May consider having those pump seals freshened up at thier age when the engine already apart.

If you send in the pumps for rebuild send in the injectors too. It's amazing the difference in how they run afterwards. If you tell them you may want to pull it, they will fuel it up a bit at wot and it will really snort.
