You tractor is from production year 1942. I used to own S/N 44000, also a '42 tractor. So far as I know, the Two Cylinder club are the ones who have the data as to what features the tractor left the factory with. Perhaps there remain some clues on yours. The battery box would have been under the fan shaft between the front fan bracket and the engine tappet cover. There would have been a light switch in the instrumentation panel (if the knockout is still in place, it's likely the tractor did not have lighting). The flywheel is a whole lot different -- there would have been a ring gear on it and there should be some remnant of the starter or starter bracket somewhere on the tractor. I think you have the idea here. Rather than pay the Two Cylinder Club to tell you this data, you may indeed be able to get a pretty good idea by doing some basic detective work. Generally speaking, H tractors didn't come with electric start. This feature was optional, not standard. This will actually surprise many I suppose, but the particular farmers who bought these tractors weren't loaded & besides, they usually worked small farms, doing all the work so by the time nightfall came, they turned in for the night! As a rule of thumb, only 1 in 10 H tractors had electric start when first sold. Actually, today -- an H tractor with electric start can be a little hard to find spare parts for -- especially starter parts -- so I am told! As a corrollary to the serial number versus the year of production, you can look over to the left side of this YT page, click on "Serial Numbers," and a massive amount of data unfolds! I hope this helps some. (PatB)
