410D STOP Alarm

I recently purchased a 1992 410D loader/backhoe from a construction company. Some of the fuses were missing or very dirty (fuse panel was missing), so I replaced the missing fuses and cleaned the others (also installed the correct fuse panel cover). Since I did this, the STOP light flashes and the buzzer sounds whenever I crank the engine and put the tractor in gear (forward or reverse). I checked the oil and hydraulic fluid levels and they are fine. The engine runs fine and the tractor seems to operate normally without any problems. None of the fault lights are lighted. I can remove the fuse for the monitor and the STOP light goes out and the buzzer quits. If you put the fuse back in, the light stays out and the buzzer stays silent. If you shut the engine down and put the fuse in, the buzzer starts sounding and the light comes back on when I crank the engine and put the tractor in gear. I can't seem to find the reason for the buzzer and the STOP light. I wonder if the brake indicator is bad. The manual states that the STOP light will flash and the buzzer will sound, if you attempt to put the tractor in gear with the PARK Brake Switch in the "ON" position. That is not the case here. You can cycle the brake switch from On to Off and the problem continues. The brakes are releasing when I put the PARK brake switch in the OFF position. The tractor won't move with the PARK Brake in the ON position. Can someone give me some ideas of what to test for? Does anyone know where the PARK brake indicator switch is located on the tractor? Maybe I should test it to see if it's stuck closed? One other question: How can I test the six fault lights to make sure they are working? Any help would sure be appreciated!

There is , I believe, a mechanical switch located on the park brake actuator arm. Located on the arm that the park brake canister operates on the transaxle. If memory serves correctly, its on the right side of the transaxle. As far as the monitor lights go, there should be a "bulb check" position on the key switch . Its usually slightly before the starter engages. It will illuminate all monitor bulbs, but not really test each circuit...just tell you if the bulb itself works.

I"ll look for the brake switch when I get back to my farm later this week. Are you saying it will be on the right side if you are sitting on the tractor?

I tried the bulb check, but that seems to only test the ! light and the STOP light. None of the monitor bulbs light when I put the key switch in the Test position. I put new bulbs in the module. Maybe the module is bad? One other thing: The tachometer does not work either. Any suggestions on it?

Allen, The 410D will have a rocker switch for the park brake. The switch should be in the applied position when staring then switched to release before putting in gear and the light should go out. If it doesn't try moving back to apply and then release. Also is the parking brake working? Often the band will be broken after hard use or abuse. The band is spring applied with a rotochamber type actuator. Another possible problem is this chamber has gone bad and will not hold fluid pressure to release the spring. This is ussually when someone will back out the emergency release bolt and remove the fuse. If you don't have one get a service manual. Try to buy it used because new are expensive.

Chuck:

Yes, the rocker switch is on the side operators console and I have been using it just as you have suggested. It works, because the tractor won't move unless you flip it to off before putting it in gear. I've tried going back and forth between On and Off, but to no avail.

I would love to find a used service manual. Yes, they are expensive new!

Any other suggestions about what could cause the STOP light to flash and the buzzer to sound?

Allen I can't remember if the system senses hydraulic pressure on the spring chamber or if it is a switch on the linkage on top of the transaxle. Try ebay for manuals I've bought several of them there.
