I'M GETTING READY TO PAINT THE HOOD AND GRILLS ON MY JOHN DEERE A. I'M GONNA USE JOHN DEERE CLASSIC GREEN IN THE SPRAY CAN SINCE I DON'T HAVE THAT LARGE OF A AREA TO COVER. TO MINIMIZE FADING I THOUGHT ABOUT PUTTING CLEAR COAT OVER IT, SOMEBODY TOLD ME YOU CAN NOW GET CLEAR COAT IN A SPRAY CAN, WOULD THIS WORK OK? ANY SPECIAL BRAND I NEED TO BUY?

Adding clear will change the look of the green and never be correct no matter how you spray it on. You can spot a tractor with clear a mile away. If correct matters to you add hardner to John Deere's own paint and spray with a gun

Sorry, I'm with Frank on this one. Rattle can clear coat won't do you much good. I have heard of people using a good Dupont or such clear coat over the Deere synthetic enamel with good results. Using a spray gun isn't that tough with some practice. Your best bet would be to talk with a local automotive paint supplier and get his suggestions. Clear coat shouldn't be that expensive especially compared to spray bombs. The most important thing is that you get a clear coat that will be compatible with the JD enamel.

One thing that I will tell you about the JD Classic Green in spray bombs, it will not hold up to sun exposure! Everything that I have ever painted with spray cans turns blue after a year or so of exposure.

Sorry guys but the deterioration of paint is from UV rays, professional paints like DuPont HC 7600 or the Imron have UV screeners in them, but the spray cans have no UV screener so your paint wont last any longer if you spray can clear them

Let me know how this turns out. i to am doing a basement / backyard job i have other tractors that have been done the long correct way , but i dont have a place or equipment to do it that way here . i to have been hand sanding ,useing oven cleaner, rattle can primeing ect.dont know how or what kind of paint i am going to use yet . when its 80-90% i'll start to think about it.

Classic green is a synthetic enamel and begins to deteriorate as soom as it dries.The newer paints actually improve in appearance for about 6 months before they begin to deteriorate.If you really want the parts to look good for a long time,then use base coat/clear coat.

I doubt it will work, more then likely it will bubble and crack the rattle can green.

If you find a clear coat in a can that works, let me and a lot of other people know!

I use Dupont HC7600S Chroma Clear. It's expensive, and the "activators" are expensive also. It takes practice to learn how to use it, and if you are doing it in a dusty area it's almost impossible to get a decent paint. Wayne
