Would someone be kind enough to help me with this problem. My 730 will start and run for about 20 minutes, then dies. When I jump it to my pickup, it will run for about 20 more minutes and die again. I have to do this all day to mow and shred on a small farmfield. Do you think it's the batteries, regulator or unknown forces? thanks...

I assume you have a gasoline engine. I"d also look at the coil and the condensor. We have experienced bad condersors causing trouble when they heat up and the coil could be likewise. You can feel the coil to see if seems to be overly warm. Although I"m not sure the small time that elapses when you jump start it would be enough to let these parts cool and work again it is an idea.

Chick, it may be either the Battery or Generator or Voltage Regulator or else a wiring problem or a short somewhere or even just a loose belt. OR ELSE THE "UNKNOWN FORCES" YOU MENTIONED !!!!! !!!!

If you give the battery a good charge using a charger it will run a long time provided you dont start it much or use many lights.

I would start with a battery check, maybe a local shop could load test it. In the meantime, be sure all its cells are full of electrolyte above the plates and that no cells exhibit a gray or milky appearance (maybe a bad cell). Its best if any cells are low to add distilled water but if too low it may require the addition of battery acid.

Does it have a working ammeter and what does it show when running and when shes shut off???

Be sure the fan belt is good n tight???

SUMMARY

Give the battery a good charge with a charger, maybe have it load tested (or use another known good battery), be sure its topped off with water/electrolyte above all plates in all cells,,,,, ,,,,be sure the belt is good n tight,,,,, ,,let me know what the ammeter reads running and setting,,,,, ,,,,,DOES THE AMMETER SWING OVER TO DISCHARGE WITH TRACTOR OFF IF YOU TURN LIGHTS AND IGNITION ON????? ?????

Post back your findings and more info and I can provide you a troubleshooting procedure to see if its a Generator or a Voltage Regulator problem if the batteyr and belt and all else is good but she eventualy runs the battery down.

Good Luck n God Bless

If you have a gas 730 I agree with MSM.If you have a diesel you must just have a fuel flow problem.

Sounds like you have a charging system problem. When you jump it,there is enough residual charge in the battery to keep it running for a short time.Look at the generator or voltage regulator,or remove them and have them tested.
