I have a John Deere Sickle mower Z1051-H+ and I was wondering if anybody could tell me what year it was.

#5 mowers were made from 1934 to 1955 i am pretty sure. They were replaced by the #8 in 1956 if i remember correctly. As far as i know they were never serial numbered but dont quote me on that. There are some parts breaks that can help you to determine a production period a particular mower was manufactured but not a particular year. John Deere still has parts manuals available for the #5 which can be helpful.

Like somebody told you before, that # is simply the casting # of the gearcase top cover on a #5 mower... that's what you have... a #5 mower.

#5 mowers were built from sometime in the '40's up into the late '50's, I don't know if there's a serial number on the mower that would date it closer.

You can still get parts manuals, and owner's manuals from Deere, or probably find a owner's manual on ebay.

If your email works, I'll be sending you a scan or two.

Sorry, perhaps it was someone else also looking for the same information?
