JD R pony engine transmission oil leak

Was adding oil to the pony engine transmission and it runs right out - cannot see where it is running out at - seems to be coming from below the tranny somewhere. Anyone have a similar problem or suggestions? Thanks

Howdy Karl,

Short of a cracked or broken case, it is either leaking from the shim seals where the pinion shaft assembly bolts on to the transmission or the pinion shaft seal is leaking and letting the oil out. If when it stops running out you still have oil in the tranny, then I would suspect the seal on the shaft is letting it draw down to that depth but if it is drawing down lower then I would say the shim/seals are leaking (although they could be leaking higher up than the bottom)
Either way you will have to take the pinion shaft assembly off and investigate.
