Firestone on Strike.Now what?

Wouldn't you know it, just got done painting the rims on my JD 4010 and wanted to finish them off with a pair of Firestone Traction Field and Road 18.4-34's and what does my tire man tell me. Firestone is on strike and there isn't a pair to be had in in the Wisconsin area. Well, he has some Delta Accurate 18.4-34 23 degree longbar-longbar type tires but I have never heard of them and don't know what they look like. Has anyone had any experience with these tires and do they resemble the tires of the era(early 60's). I'm not looking for the best traction, greatest mud cleaning, easiest on the hay field, longest lasting on the road, tire. I'd just like to restore it to somewhat original looks again.

Don"t hold your breath waiting for Firestone...it could be late summer. GY is narrowing down tire options to make it more steamlined before getting blended in with Titan. That includes an redundencies in bias ply tires. Expect Kelly Springfield and associated brands to get nipped as Titan takes over. GY does have L/L bar bias, as well as Kelly. As for BFG it is scheduled to be discontinued at the end of 2005. The US based tire mfgs can make more $ by producing radials and the market is definately driven that way. With OE demand for tires being way up, the replacement market is getting shorted and the mfgs are able to increase the price because of high demand and low supply. The way the tire industry is today, expect to get more foreign product. Tire industry can"t provide "cheap" farm rubber at US wages. Consider Continental AS Farmer and Barum true 45 degree rubber, deep lugged...there are still lots of options our there. I have no real bad experiences with Akuret, should make avg. looking OE replacement. Some folks will have to get off the fact that it has to be US built...next few years will change that.

I'm glad I got my 20.8x38's on my 4840 when I did. At $900 apiece that kinda hurt, but I bet after the strike Firestone tires will probably take another 10-15% price hike, like they did Jan 1st because of high steel prices. I highly doubt that NOBODY has any 18.4x34's 151's. I would be patient, If you can I would get your tire guy to give you a price on them, that way if they do take a hike maybe you can hold him to it.

I'm not sure, but i think that a 4010 might be old enough that it would have come with 45 degree lugs. BFGoodrich makes a nice looking 45 degree lug. There are two styles, one is 45 but doesnt look right, the other looks like the old fashioned 45 lugs.

They won't be on strike forever,just have a little patience. Or have you considered Goodyear or BFG. If I wanted to be as original as possible I would look around a little more. I have Goodyear front and rear on my 50 and I am happy with that.
