I'm going to look at a John Deere Model 90 Skidsteer to use for light dirt work. All I know at this time is, it's 20-25 years old and runs. What should I look for and what would be a reasonable price range?

When you get on it and drive it make sure that it is not pulling to one side more than the other. If you look under the seat you will see two pumps. Sometimes just one gets rebuilt causing them to pull off center.
See if it still has the Onan engine with the oil filter looking at you when you open the back hatch. You can no longer get that same engine anymore. I just had to put a Lanamar in mine and had to make some changes but it works fine at this time.
See if the brake still holds.
Make sure it still has the flat metal skid plates on the bottom of it. There should be 3 of them on there. We have had one sine it was new in 1980 and have used it like it was a 750 JD dozer.
As far as price who knows you don't see many sale. I would gess $2000 on the low side if it needs work and $5500 on the high.
Replacement engine is about $1600 to $1800
Good luck

Thanks for the good info. You answered all my questions, but generated some new ones.
1. Pump Rebuild. What constitutes a pump rebuild. Is it a seal kit replacement or does it need a commercial rebuild?
2. Brakes. If the brakes don't hold, what kind of repair would it possibly need? Is it just a lining type brake or is it an internal hydraulic brake?
3. Skid Plates. If missing are they easily fabricated?

Thanks,
K-Mo
