I have a 4620 that has an easy load in 5th gear pulling my JD 20ft C20 field cultivator. There is a JD 40ft 1010 coming up on an auction nearby and I'm wondering if I could pull it in 4th with a little more throttle? I have 18.4x38 bias duals on. Thanks in advance.

I pull a 24' 1010 mounted digger with my 4620 (in 5th), with new radial maines and bias duals. I wish I had 26' but this is what I found. I would do some measureing and see if you can tear that 40' digger down (dont think it will come out right) If you can buy it cheap it would be worth a shot. Other wise your gonna have to go shopping.

Thanks for the info JDBert, that is what I was thinking if it goes cheap it's worth trying it otherwise 26ft would be enough if I was going shopping.

I pull a 27'actually tilling soil with a healthy 4650 Mfwd and I don't need more if that helps you.

Don't know what kind of soils you are working in, but around here a 24ft would be plenty. 40ft here would require 4wd and at least 300 hp.

mk4020, if you had enough power to pull 40' you would not have enough traction. If your tractor is dualled up you could probably do 25' or thereabouts without any trouble. But 40' is way too much. Mike
