A local retiring farmer has an excellent 630 for sale. A local mechanic with 30+ yrs. experience with 15 of it in a deere shop disassembled right main and replaced crankshaft seal. Tractor was reassembled and oil moves from crankcase to trans at same rate as before. I trust mechanics ability as he has repaired many deere items for me. Any ideas on what may be happening before I make offer or walk away.

I believe there is a angle drilled hole that will let oil that comes out of the bearing and is stopped by the seal to return to the case. If you put the seal in so far it block this hole then the seal may become under pressure and then leak. Also, Mike M is right that there is a gasket on the bearing housing and a quad ring that seals the oil feed. There is also a dowel plug where the oil feed hole that comes in horizontal meets up with the feed hole that goes vertical to the bearing - that dowel plug could be leaking and that would be pressure oil.

I wonder if they pulled the whole main bearing casting off when they replaced the seal ? I think there is a gasket or a packing washer to seal the oil pressure passage. Might even be a dowel pin that holds the bearing from turning fell out letting oil pressure leak off ?
