The heat exchanger valve is rusted tight on my 60, does it matter, do I need to use it? I think it is set for cold??? The bridge shaped bracket is shaped like this - ^ - if you were to look at it from the side and I can make out -cold- just below it on the manifold. I dont know anything about them. How would you change it?

It was not originally intended by JD to be required to remove the manifold in order to turn this valve from cold to hot. However, typically these valves are stuck so tight that even with the manifold off the tractor there is a high risk of breaking the exhaust manifold getting them loose. If it is in the "Cold" position my recommendation would be to leave it right where it is.

Just be thankful both manifolds are still good on your tractor. Most are not. To replace them is over a $500 bill with JD parts and over $200 with aftermarket parts. This fits the old axiom "Don't fix it if it isn't broken!"

To revove it you must take the manifold off. To change from cold to hot, remove bridge, soak with penetrating oil and tap with hammer. It should go down as it is a taper fit when it goes down, then turn with wrench to the desired setting and re-install the bridge. This will pull it back up. Russ
