I found 2 tractors for sale both 2440,s one has a straight front axle the other one has a swept back axle. I'm putting a loader on which ever i buy so is one axle better that the other on the tractor. and if not what is the purpose of a swept back axle. thanks as always.

Anklerk, the straight axle is probably a better bet for loader work. Keeping the axle closest to the loader bucket will help your rear wheel stability which you will need with a tractor/loader combination such as this. Also, the swept back front axles are normally a lighter duty axle than the straight axles. You want all the front axle you can get. Hope this helps. Mike

A swept back axle would provide a shorter wheel base for a shorter turning radius. I would definitely choose the straight axle for a loader. The shorter wheel base of the swept back axle will put more of the tractor weight on the front axle, making it easier to bury the front end in muddy ground.

I have a 2040 and a 2010 with the swept back front axle, don't notice any difference in burrying the front end. The swept back is more agile, but probably rides a little rougher.I would not hesitate to buy another swept back, in fact I prefer them.If you can find a tractor in good condition at a reasonable price don't let the style of wide front be a deterent.
