Hello everybody

Has anybody ever put electric start on a B JD before?
What parts do I need to change and or buy to make it work?
I dont care for the hand crank.

Thank you KEV

Kev, not all B's start as good as mine (heck yea I'm braging) It is the only hand start I have that will start usualy the first time the mag clicks. However the amount of money you are looking at will more than likley give it a good tune up. Everyone likes the flywheel start if they start good. Dave NE Iowa

KEV - At the very least, you would have to put a flywheel that has a ring gear on it, a new crankcase cover that has the flange to hold the starter, a solenoid, a battery, and some wiring. This is in addition to the starter itself. You still would probably like to add a charging system which makes it even more expensive. If you really are set on doing this, I can give you the required part numbers to look for. Greg

Hello

If you could get me the numbers that would be great.
I'm switching it over for my brother in law, tractor has been in family since new, selling is not a option.
He is determined to have it done.
Is there a special way to start these? I'm not too familiar with JD.

Thank you
KEV

KEV - Send an e-mail to me at [email protected] (my home address, I am at work now), and I will return the information to you and send some pics of the parts if it would help. If you do not want to give out your e-mail address, I can bring the parts catalog to work next week. Greg

I have to agree with Dave, I have a 1935 B hand crank of course, it starts on the 3-7 turn of the flywheel never been any problem since I got it running again. Also it would probably cost you about half the price of a B with starter just to add it to yours.

It seems to me if you want the electric start you should just sell yours and buy one w/the elec. start. You would have to put a whole new flywheel on your tractor. You'd also have to makeshift a way for your starter to fit on there. Then on top of that you'd have to find a spot to mount your battery. Seems to me it would be more work than it's worth to convert yours than it would be to just go find a B w/elec. start. With all respect most guys who have the hand crank B's like to keep them that way. I'm sure most others will agree with me.
