Just curious, has anyone ever used the PTO shaft coming out the front of the transmission case for anything, or know a specific example of a machine that was meant to be driven off of it? I know Deeres usually don't need any extra help in the hydraulic power department, but I've always thought that front PTO shaft would make an exellect place to drive a loader pump.

I once owned a 3010 with a Du-Al loader. The loader had it's own pump, which ran off the front PTO. Freed up the single remote on the tractor for other uses.

Back in about '65, my uncle used a side mount mower powered off the front shaft and pulled the crimper at the same time. He only used that setup for about 2 years until he got a Hesston haybine. It seemed like a slick setup, but both shafts run off the same clutch and every time the mower would jam, it would cause problems with the crimper when you backed up to unjam the mower. I have been told that it was no fun to operate, but it still saved alot of time/fuel.

I have a front mounted snowblower that runs off the front shaft. Works really good in deep snow when you gear down and don't have to kill your neck looking back all the time. I have also seen sickle mowers mounted on the side run off the front shaft.

The JD600, which was the industrial version of the 4020 had a hydraulic pump attached to the front shaft to run the loader. There was a separate reservoir so the loader hydraulics were completely independant.

I've also seen sprayer pumps run by the front PTO.

They work good with the belly-mount sickle mower.

I have seen these shafts used for a front mount rotary snowplow (used in Sask) and to drive an air conditioner pump if the tractor was not equiped with air.
