I recently started teaching at my current school, and we have a Deere engine that is in various states of disarray. Just wondering if anyone knows what it is out of so I can look up some parts. Serial #: 366792 T
Type: 6329DH 01

Thanks

By the numbers you posted it is a non turbo 329 cubic inch displacement for a harvester application. Probably a 6600 or 4400 combine engine, Very common Dubuque built engine. Easy to work on and parts are plentiful.

Been a long, long time; but my recollection is that the gasoline engine in our 699 cotton picker was a 329..... ....

The 329 was also in the 2840 Tractor.

The 329 has been used in quite a few applications and as a stand-alone power-unit. I believe the "H" in the engine designation gives it away as an engine used in a harvester, which is probably what WTW was referring to. They were fitted with different options, components and parts depending on application, and simply calling it a "6329" isn't going to cut it when you go to order some parts.

It was also used in a 4030 tractor as well. With the letter "H" in the model number he posted it came from a combine / harvester application. If it was the letter "R" it would of been 4030. "L" or "T" would of been 2840. No big difference in any of them other than fuel setup, age and place of manufacture. Most 329 used hear (USA) were built in Dubuque except for the 2840 and those were built in Saran France.

Do you know if any of the 329 had turbo's on them?? and if so do you know what they where in?? and the horsepower.. I have a 2840 and it's 80 HP at the PTO. I always woundered if they made a 2840 with a turbo. The tractor seems to pull a lot for it's size. I just don't like the transmission. Did the 2940 have a 329 engine?? If not do you know why they stopped making the 329? Thanks Pete

PJ, The 329 was replaced by the 359 which was what a 2940 used. They did turbo some 329 engines in construction equipment in end loader applications and maybe some power units that I am not aware of. Not hard to find manifold and turbo setups to fit these engines as all 329, 359 414, 5.9 and early 6.8 engines use the same manifold / bolt patterns. I just bought a turbo manifold off a 5.9 engine as it is the same manifold I run on my 414 in my pulling tractor. There was also a M&W turbo kit available for the 329 for the 4030 tractors as I have seen a few of them in the past. The 2840 would be an easy tractor to turbo with factory John Deere parts as there is allot of room under the hood to put on a pretty decent size turbo. A 100 hp would not hurt it and you could push it allot more if you wanted to but may be riskily depending on what you use the tractor for. If you want a factory bolt in 359 turbo engine that will be ready to go with an warranty I got one to sell you or I could sell you the parts to build one. Let me know if you are interested. DW
